Happy New Years…

By Admin | January 12, 2012

Getting Ready for 2012!

WOW! I cannot believe it is 2012! It has been such a busy year here for us! God has blessed us immensely! Last year, our older son, Matt, took an amazing job in Charleston, SC, moving his family (along with 3 of our grandchildren) with him. But, with only a three to four hour drive, we now get to visit our most favorite destination often! I won't take up much of your time today. You're been busy these last few weeks taking down Christmas decorations, shopping for those wonderful bargains, and enjoying family.

While looking for bargains, I hope you didn't forget to check with your local hobby stores, if you enjoy making wreaths, or other types of florals. This is an amazing time to find GREAT bargains there.

Two years ago, we happened to go into a Hobby Lobby in a nearby town the first week in January. They had literally JUST moved all Christmas merchandise which was left over to one isle — an unadvertised special — and reduced it to 90% off.

My husband, bless his heart, saw this first and pointed it out to me. We loaded up THREE buggies with garlands, ornaments, and flowers, and paid $90.00 for it. Folks, that was $900.00 worth of Christmas merchandise that I was able to pull out the following year and use. Needless to say: I WAS THRILLED!

I am in the mood for new spring wreaths! I have been planning, and thinking, and looking at pictures of wreaths I have made in the past. Boy, am I ready for it this year!

Looking Ahead!

Happy New Year's Eve Eve! I won't take up much of your time today. I know you're probably taking down Christmas decorations, shopping for those wonderful bargains, and enjoying family.

The wreath above REALLY does something for me this time of year when it is still really cold and drab outside, and February is just a little over four weeks off. This very special Valentines wreath warms my heart making me think of the sunny, spring days ahead, how about you?

Nancy Recommends Nana's Caramel Cake

If you will check on my blog, http://www.NancysRamblings.com in the next couple of days, I am going to post Nana's Famous Caramel Cake Recipe! Honestly, it is the ABSOLUTE BEST CAKE you'll ever taste.

Nana (Steve's mother) has quite a reputation around her small town of Iva, South Carolina for all of her delicious baked goods. Nana is getting older, and doesn't bake like used to, so I am going to have to learn to bake this cake. It's very hard when you have a reputation like hers to live up to!

Sara Alexander's New Business (Selling "Thirty-One")

http://www.mythirtyone.com/110843/

I don't know how many of you ladies have heard of a company named "Thirty-One", but it is pretty popular in Anderson. In other towns, many ladies have never heard of it.

"Thirty-One" has some of the neatest bags, totes, cases, organizers, luggage, and more that I have ever seen. I found the perfect bag for me over a year ago. Now, I normally would be changing bags quite often, but do you know that I haven't changed since I received my "favorite!"

I just thought you might like to take a "peek" because I love mine so very much! I am thrilled that my daughter-in-law is now selling it!

The link above is to Sara's website. I just thought you might want to look around… who knows… I'll bet you will LOVE it as much as I do. Oh, and anything can come with a monogram which is really great!

My Christmas Gift For You

By Admin | December 11, 2011

"Merry Christmas" By, Nancy Alexander

My Christmas Gift For You…

As I was thinking of what I would like to do for my customers and friends for Christmas this year, I was looking through my emails.  Many were from friends and acquaintances who may have purchased a DVD, or have looked at some of my You Tube videos.  Lots of them were on the exact same subjects; making an inexpensive Christmas wreath when funds are tight, and making Christmas bows.  I had an "Ah-Ha" moment when I realized a FREE video for all of you showing how you REALLY can make an inexpensive wreath with just the green wreath and ribbon.  Also… I KNOW… I JUST KNOW… that every one of you can make your own bow if we go over the steps enough, and if you practice.  So — the idea of my Christmas gift to YOU was right in front of me!  A VIDEO!!

I Know YOU Can Learn to Make a Beautiful Christmas Wreath and Bow!

THE VIDEO ABOVE IS A CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR YOU FROM LADYBUG WREATHS:
Enjoy this special video I made especially for you.

This time of year you may catch me reliving the memories of the past when our children were young. We didn’t have much money, but we had each other and had SO MUCH FUN! I remember back when I had time to decorate our home early, bake cookies, cakes, and an unbelievable selection of treats ahead of time. Our home was full of these gooey, yummy, fattening, sugary concoctions! Shopping was finished, gifts were wrapped and under the tree, and the house was perfect, inside and out.

“Our Stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
and Christmas trees were everywhere!
Elves were hanging upside down,
as Santas were placed all around.
Presents strategically placed ‘neath the tree,
would fill each wide-eyed child with glee”! …teeheehee…

~Nancy Alexander~

I wanted to do something very special for YOU, my friends and customers during this holiday season…so, yesterday, my friend and employee, Kim, helped me filmed this video. In it, I show you how you can make an absolutely beautiful wreath with very little money and time invested! Actually, you can go to your local hobby store, just as I did for an inexpensive wreath and ribbon! Have lots of fun making your wreath and decorating your home. Enjoy your family as we celebrate this most wonderful season!

Here's an update on our lives:  things have changed a little around our house from times past! We will still have a “magical” Christmas as we always have, this time enjoying our four grandchildren along with our boys and their wives.

I have been working many long hours lately. These days are spent making, listing, and shipping wreaths, filming videos, and duplicating DVDs for anxious customers. I write on this blog about our lives and our business as often as I can. And…I am being interviewed by an author who is writing “my story”.

Then, thanks to my dear friend and partner, Linda Joseph, we’re updating my website, which is long overdue. Time is spent choosing colors, fonts, logos and styles to give LadybugWreaths.com the functionality it needs as well as the look we want it to have.

Our coaching site, “BestOfNancy.com” is growing by leaps and bounds with many new members! This most certainly is where my heart is. This site has been a “gift from God” as Linda and I help, encourage, and teach many women wanting to sell the fruits of their new-found hobby online. This is where God has led me to make a difference in the lives of others as we have so many plans for the upcoming year.

~CUSTOMER FEEDBACK~
My World Has Changed Since I Found You…

“I stumbled on your website by You Tube because I wanted to make a bow with more than one kind of ribbon and I wasn’t exactly sure how to do that and make it look right. However, my world has been changed ever since. I can’t seem to stay away from looking at your work. I ordered your vendor list book yesterday and can’t wait to read it. I have made several wreaths for Christmas and no more than get them to work and they are sold – some for $100.00. I love to use a variety of materials, but I can only go to a Hobby Lobby or a Michael’s and that is not satisfying enough to me.

The greenery you use in your wreaths is stunning and amazing. It makes me feel so good to make something that someone else thinks is beautiful. I am sure you know your work is outstanding but I know one more email never hurts. All of your wreaths are breathtaking and they inspire me to want to make more. I hope you have a truly blessed day!!”

~Debi~

~CUSTOMER FEEDBACK~
Just Knowing You Put a Smile on This Ol' Lady's Face Today…

“Thank you so very much for the most gorgeous Christmas Wreath I EVER laid my eyes on. How did you know I love the oval wreath…and most of all the “little baby Cardinal” tucked safely away on a branch. Our front door is white, so it shows beautifully.

By all means, use this letter for an endorsement. I highly recommend your work. For years, I would watch a dear friend of mine while she designed in her shop. I know a little of the trade. Over the years I have looked on eBay for high class designs, such as yours. I’m sure your designs are not South Carolina’s secret. They’re known all over the world!

Just know you put a smile on this ol’ lady’s face today. One of the most perfect gifts I ever gave to myself!! This will be a “keepsake” for many years to comeYou will definitely hear from me again in the “spring” Merry Christmas & a healthy, happy New Year!

~Connie~

Making Wreaths Continued

What Type Do I Want?

We have been talking about making wreaths lately, and how to find your own style.  So many of you who want to make your own wreaths really don't know where to start.  Well, in this series of newsletters, my goal is to help you find out what you really like in a wreath.  Then you can learn from my DVDs how to make your own special wreath.  And, if you want to carry your hobby further, I can also teach you how to sell your specially designed wreaths online, bringing in extra household income.

There really are MANY different types and styles of wreaths.  First, let's start with wreath bases.  I personally prefer my own "Wild Birch Wreaths".  These are made exclusively for me by a young mother in the hills of Kentucky.  They are special, different, and unique.  Would you like to know what drew me to them at first?

Well, it was the "wild" style of the birch and beech stems radiating out all around from the tighter center circle of the wreath.  Below you can see an example of exactly what I'm talking about.  This is a Christmas wreath which was just shipped out a couple of days ago from the Ladybug Wreaths Studio.  It is a perfect example of "Wild Birch" & "Wild & Woodsy"!

Many of you might like a tighter, more compact wreath style.  These can be made with a grapevine wreath as the base.  They are woven a little tighter and DO NOT have the wild sticks radiating out all around.  Your finished wreath will have the more compact look rather than the loose and airy look you get from wild birch.

Christmas wreaths are normally, but not always, on the green Christmas wreath bases you can find anywhere.  They are sold in every craft and hobby store this time of year.  They come in all shapes, sizes and types.  Some are smaller with just a little greenery – all of one type – and then others are much fuller with a larger mix of Christmas greens.  These can have pine cones, berries, or other materials already added to them.

The wreath above is one of our beautiful Christmas wreaths made on a Christmas green base rather than the wild birch.  You can tell by looking at this wreath that we like to also add 'everyday greens' to our Christmas wreath bases.  There is ivy, wisteria, green leafy fillers, and much more!  This is one thing that "Ladybug Wreaths" is well known for!

There are other bases used from time to time, but these are ones which I really do not prefer, so I don't use them.  These include straw wreath forms, Styrofoam forms which you can stick stems into, and ribbon wrapped forms.

You can see many examples of our Christmas wreaths in our Etsy.com store.  By looking at these wreaths, you might be able to decide exactly which style you do like.  And, if you would like to purchase a wreath, we have a large selection of many beautiful ones for sale there also!

View Christmas Wreaths in our Etsy Store

http://www.etsy.com/shop/LadybugWreaths

Many of you may want to purchase your own "already made" wreath.  Others of you may want to purchase a DVD and learn to make your own.  There is a very large selection of wreaths right now for sale in Etsy, which will help you in finding the type and style that tugs at your heartstrings and brings a smile.  When you feel that way looking at any type of floral design — well, then you KNOW that is your style!

Displaying Your Wreath…Where & How

I'm often asked how to display these beautiful creations, whether you purchase them, or make your own.  There are many locations in your home where a wreath would add so much warmth.  First of all, I believe that a wreaths on your front door is a must for special holidays!  Actually, I keep a wreath on my front door all the time – changing them out for special seasons and holidays.

But, there are other places in your home where a wreath can add that very special touch.  In our home, everyone enters through our back door, so I always make sure to put a wreath there.  A small wreath in a bathroom or a bedroom with some dainty flowers and maybe a sweet bird perched on her nest is a beautiful way to enhance each room by adding more color and texture on the wall.

For Christmas, I also have double glass doors which open to our back porch.  I hang green wreaths on the outside of these doors, and have found that it makes the inside much more inviting to have wreaths of the same size hanging back-to-back on the inside of my doors also.

There are many places where wreaths are pretty, appropriate, and draw the eye of friends and guests… just be creative!

How do I Make Wreaths?

By Admin | November 17, 2011

 How do I Make Wreaths?

Finding Your Own Style…

This is a question I have been asked so often through the years.  WOW, I can't even begin to guess how many times!

I take your questions very seriously – I always have.  It is important to me to be able to answer each and every one of them.  Truthfully, I am honored that you ask me, and that you think of me as the expert who can help you.

More subjects you want to know about when it comes to wreaths:
  • How to sell wreaths
  • Selling wreaths on eBay
  • Shipping wreaths
  • Make wreaths to sell
  • What to name my wreath business

In order to help you in your quest to learn to make your own wreath, I not only need to tell you how, but I need to show you too!  But, my main goal in this entire process is not only teaching you the basics (which you definitely need to know), but in helping you find your own style.  That is when the "light bulb" comes on in your head and you realize – you just know – that you "have it"!

You have just created something special and beautiful from your own imagination – from colors you love – to materials which strike your fancy – and then putting these materials into your wreath in such a way that is exclusive only to you.  This is when I know that I have succeeded in teaching you to make your own wreath!  This makes me SO happy!

Your questions and your desires to create and learn were the main reasons I started filming instructional DVDs.  I decided that was truly the best way I could help you.  I would dearly LOVE to stand right beside each one of you and guide your hands in the beginning of this process – but that is impossible except for the few of you who do want to come here for one-on-one coaching with me.

I needed to figure out a way to talk to you through a camera.  Well, actually there was not "a" camera"… there were 3!  The local film crew I had found to come to our studios to film that first video brought with them three very large, impressive cameras.  There were bright, hot lights shining on my face and in my eyes practically blinding me.

I was nervous already, so I thought to myself; I can't do this!  I don't like this!  What if I make a mistake?  What if I can't think of anything to say?  You won't believe this, but for the first video, I purchased about 20 sheets of poster paper and wrote on them what I thought I needed to say.  I was surrounded by giant CUE CARDS!  THAT WAS THE MOST HORRIBLE DISASTER!!!!!! I should have held on to the session clips that day – they would make great "bloopers" now!

The camera crew stopped me after about 20 'takes' saying this isn't going to work!  Sorry, but we're throwing away all your posters.  All we can see is your eyes going back and forth as you read – it's terrible!

So, I started again, but this time with flowers and ribbons in my hands.  My hands were busy – they were happy :).  Apparently my brain works much better when my hands are busy.  I started making a wreath as I explained each and every step.  I talked to you about supplies, how to use picks, how to tape stems, and how to anchor each item into your wreath so securely that it would NEVER come out!

As I worked, I told you stories of my family, my life… me!  I showed you each and every step of the design I was working on.  I talked about past design mistakes I had made and and I even made a few right in front of the camera just for you!  (Well, you know, that is part of the learning process, right??)  giggle, giggle…

You know what?  That was okay.  You needed to know that everyone makes mistakes, not only when they are new at designing, but even veteran designers.  The key is knowing how to keep right on going as you correct each mistake; making it all come together to be a "gorgeous" finished product in the end.  I have always said that really is the key to being a good designer – no matter what happens while you're making a wreath or an arrangement, it's knowing how to bring it all together in the end that  counts.

Well, that day flew by as I taught so many of you how to make your own wreath.  We didn't even stop for a break.  I finished a beautiful wreath, looked at the clock, and couldn't believe my eyes.  Two hours had gone by, and I had not stopped talking the entire time… lol.  The camera men were worn out.  They couldn't believe I had kept going, and going, and going…  But what was more impressive, they couldn't believe that I had not stopped talking the entire time.  They said I was "a natural" in front of a camera — well, I don't know about that, but I do know that I connected with "you" that day and have ever since with the film videos I have made for you.

From your own testimonials, you've told me this is the best, easiest and most rewarding way you can learn to make your own wreaths and floral designs.  It is a simple but fun way you can learn to make a wreath to hang on your own door, give as gifts to friends, or… sell them on the Internet, earning extra cash as many of us do!

My ‘Secret’ Is Revealed

My 'Secret' Is Revealed

'Secret Vendor List' Has Been Updated…

BLAST FROM THE PAST, NOVEMBER, 2011

World-Renowned Designer Finally Reveals Her
Highly-Coveted "Secret Supplier List" for
Creating Stunning Wreaths — For Fun or Profit!

It has been exactly ONE year since my 'SECRET VENDOR LIST' was published. WOW… has this been an exciting year for LadybugWreaths and all of our students!

The Secret Vendor List downloadable eBook has literally FLOWN out the door! Shop owners, hobbyists, and floral designers selling online have sent me emails, called, and even messaged me that they were blown away by all of the information they received in this unheard of eBook, with all of the bonuses we gave away with it.

So…for the one one year anniversary, I am proud to say we have really outdone ourselves!

My goal for this update has been to give you even MORE information that the first book. And, after many long hours of driving, taking pictures, and rewriting, I believe – NO, I KNOW – we have done just what we set out to do.

This updated eBook is TRULY unbelievable. Now is the PERFECT time for this update because:

There is a major shift in floral design – not just different colors, and types of flowers and ribbons as it has been in the past with some making the grade, and others falling by the wayside. This new major shift HAS ALREADY made the grade; it has passed the test with flying colors!

In case you have not guessed yet – this NEW and trendy style is none other than: Deco Mesh! I noticed it when it first came out about 4 years ago. As a matter of fact, I found it in my supplier's warehouse and purchased several dozen rolls at the time, and sold out immediately.

This supplier was as positive then as they are now that this would be a hit! Well, they were right…it certainly is! My supplier has now set up an entire website focusing (for now) only on Deco Mesh – yes, you heard me right! The entire website! Their showroom is FILLED with everything you will need to cash in on this craze and at the MOST REASONABLE PRICING I HAVE SEEN ANYWHERE!

Testimonials From Happy Customers

"When You Came Out With 'Secret
Vendor List", I was so Excited…

…because there isn't anything else out there on how to set up an online wreath business, plus I knew it had the potential to save me time, money and effort.

Your bonus video showing how to pack a wreath for shipment was helpful too. I was wiring my wreaths in but doing it differently. My way was more time consuming.

I read through the entire book the day I bought it. I immediately thought it would save me money and I was very happy with my purchase. I was not disappointed even though I had been in business for over a year. I still use your book as a reference!

My advise to beginners would be to purchase your DVDs, and the "Secret Vendors List" and understand that though an investment at first, you will save money in the long run.

~Julie~

What is a Squeeze Page?

What is a Squeeze Page?

Getting Started with Email Marketing…

Email marketing is one of the best marketing
opportunities available today.

Last time I talked about keyword research – knowing what your potential customers are looking for.

Now that you know the search terms your potential clients are entering into a search engine, you want to capture their information when they come to your website.

How Do I Start? Here is an overview of the process:

1. Start with an easy to remember domain name. (Nancy has www.LadyBugWreaths.com. It is short and sweet and easy to remember!)

2. Create a short page that sits above the fold.
This means that when someone goes to your squeeze page they shouldn't have to scroll down. Everything you want them to see is visible without scrolling.

A good example of this is www.SilentJim.com. When you go to this website you see the whole site without scrolling.

3. Have a free gift that your customers would value.
Nancy gives away a free book on designing a wreath. It provides good content and could sell easily on its own.

4. Provide benefits in a bullet format.

I'll go back to Jim's squeeze page. He has three benefits! You can see immediately whether you want his newsletter, money making ideas and tips.

5. Make it clear that they will be receiving relevant information.
It is important that visitors understand that you are going to be sending them information that will be of interest to them.

Many marketers end up sending offer after offer and don't build a relationship with their readers.

Make sure you always provide information that is good content and your readers will appreciate.

In another article, I will talk more about email marketing.

Time Management

The content and training in "Best of Nancy" continues to GROW!

Last week in Best Of Nancy, we added training on how to manage your time and projects using a free time management tool.

It is so important to keep track of your time! If you are trying to get out of debt, you closely track your spending. If you are trying to lose weight you write down everything that you eat.

The same is true with time. It seems like there are never enough hours in the day. It is important to track your time so that you can find your time "wasters."

You can read more on Best of Nancy blog.

Each month new video tutorials are added to the members area.

Easy Thanksgiving Centerpiece

By Admin | October 24, 2011

Easy Thanksgiving Centerpiece

Quick, Easy, and Inexpensive…

In all the years I owned my storefront business, I received one request over and over and over! It was: "I really want a pretty centerpiece on my table; one for Thanksgiving when we have our family over; and one for Christmas when our house is full and our table is surrounded by guests! I am sooo tired of having to remove my beautiful centerpiece…leaving my table looking bare just when our family and friends sit down to a nice meal because they just cannot see over it."

I HAVE A SOLUTION!
In the Picture Below You'll Find a Beautiful Centerpiece…
It can be much shorter or taller and look BEAUTIFUL!

After receiving this request over and over for many years, and also experimenting with different containers and applications for years and years, I finally came up with the PERFECT SOLUTION!

Now, for any of you who know me, I guess you might say I am somewhat of a perfectionist, because if I am going to do something, I am going to be sure it is done RIGHT! During these years of experimentation, I found several 'passable' solutions, and even though my customers were happy with these solutions, I still was not.

Then I came across a 19 cent square ceramic tile which is about 5 inches by 5 inches. I know… I know… I can see you shaking your head and thinking: "just how in the world is a 19 cent ceramic tile the solution to this delima? But IT IS!! I want you to take a peek at the picture below of me with my "GREAT" solution!!

In the above picture, you'll find my 'cheap' ceramic tile, my square of 'desert foam', and my Secret ingredient: "Great Stuff"!! Now, Great Stuff is insulation…yes, you heard me…that is what I said…spray insulation! But, the 'GREAT' thing about 'GREAT STUFF' is…that when it sticks, it is stuck FOR LIFE! And, I am not kidding when I say that.

I spray a very small amount of 'Great Stuff' on the back (or rough side) of the ceramic tile. Before it starts to dry, I press and wiggle my styrofoam square down onto the tile until is sort of 'squishes' out…lol. On the slick side of the tile, I have already stuck four round dots of felt so that it will not scratch the finish on your table.

Using this GREAT (low profile) base instead of any other type of container, you're now ready to start making your centerpiece. It can be short, it can be tall, it can be thin, it can be wide — there is no limit! The beautiful thing about using this as your container means that your arrangement sits right down on your table…it is the sturdiest base you have ever used, and it looks ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIUFL!

Below, I am giving you links to "short" versions of my Fall and Christmas centerpieces which are on YouTube for your viewing. Also below, you'll find links to my sales pages for the Fall Centerpiece, and the Christmas Centerpiece if you would like to learn how to make yours from start to finish!

Who are Your Customers?

By Admin | October 24, 2011

Who are Your Customers?

Focus on the right keywords…

The number one mistake I see small businesses make is understanding the market they are going after and the keywords they should target.

My goal with any project is to get ranked in the top 10 results of Google for my primary keyword phrase. In order to meet this goal I need to know who my market is, what they are searching for and how to provide the best solution for their problem.

I am not going to tell you this part is easy. It isn't! It takes some work and some digging to come up with the best keywords to target. But I will tell you that is you don't do this your website traffic is 'toast.!

How Do I Start? Here is an overview of the process:

1. Start with broad terms and look for relevant niches
2. Iterate between finding terms with sufficient search volume and low competition
3. Pick a primary term and 2-4 secondary terms.

Let me give you an example:

1. Go to Google Keyword tool and type in a couple of broad phrases and do a search. The results will provide a number of related keywords.

https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

In this example, I type in: memory verses, memorize Bible & memory verse songs; check synonym box and click 'get Keyword ideas'

2. Look through the results to see which terms best match your target market and add these to a spreadsheet.

3. The add the search volume for each term

4. Now go to Google.com and enter each term, one at a time, to see how many search results and add those numbers to your spreadsheet.

5. Evaluate the results and pick the keywords that match you market as well as have some search volume with minimal competition.

FREE Tool: Although I have used the free tools at Google I save a lot of time by using different keyword tools. My favorite tool offers a free version which you will find useful atwww.MarketSamuraiBeta.com.

NOTE: You get full use of the tool for a trial period. At the end of the trial you still get access to the keyword portion of the tool for free. The full tool is well worth the price but if money is an issue, just use the free version.

Easy Fresh Christmas Wreath

By Admin | October 24, 2011

Yes, I'm Talking About Christmas

Easy Fresh Christmas Wreath…

To me, there is nothing prettier and more natural than a fresh green Christmas Wreath on your door for the Holiday Season. Now, that sounds just a little ridiculous because I sell artificial Christmas wreaths. But that doesn't mean that I don't LOVE the really full, rich green, natural ones. I suppose that is why I try so hard to make mine look as natural and woodsy as possible!

Making your own fresh Christmas Wreath for your door can be very hard, and frustrating work. There are only a few choices available to use as bases, and I have never been particularly fond of any of these…that is… until I came up with the "perfect" solution!

So, I'm going to tell you about the most wonderful way to make a gorgeous, full, wild and woodsy Christmas Holiday wreath — the prettiest you've ever seen — and it is SO simple! The first thing you need to do is go to your local craft and hobby store and purchase a 24 inch or 30 inch artificial green wreath — the cheaper, the better. I know, I know… don't get upset now…we really ARE going to make a fresh, natural wreath out of all the greens you have already gathered for your project.

With this artificial wreath as a base, you can tie just about anything you find in your yard or your neighbor's yard that is natural into it. Pine, fir, scotch pine, cedar, Nandina berries, holly berries, pine cones…the possibilities are endless! Whispy, draping greens will add character to your wreath also. Use your imagination, and you'll end up with a natural wreath that is held together very securely which you can change if any of the stems die or dry up too soon!

Oh… I almost forgot! Do you like fruit? Here's a trick I learned a long time ago… Purchase red apples, yellow apples, a pineapple, bananas, oranges, and other fruits which catch your eye. Also buy some Future liquid floor wax and dip your fruit into a bowl of the wax and let it dry thoroughly. This protects your fruit and keeps it from rotting quickly. To apply these to your wreath, use an ice pick or a screwdriver and make a hole all the way through. Run a green pipe cleaner through this hole and tie these into your wreath wherever you think they will be pretty!

And… last, but not least, add a large, beautiful red velvet bow, and VOILA! A brand new – natural wreath. If you don't know how to make a bow, click on this link to watch my FREE video on bow-making: http://ladybugwreaths.net/bow-making .

BE SURE TO as we talk about life, families, God's leading in our lives, business… and more!

Listen to Our Conversations…

That's right! Nancy and I are inviting you to listen in on our conversations!

Some might call it a podcast. Others might liken it to a radio show, but we liken it to you being able to eavesdrop on our conversations.

Nancy and I talk about business and family and life all the time. We decided to let you all in on our conversations!

We are calling this: "Ramblings with Nancy and Linda."Learn how to start working from home with Nancy and LindaEvery week we will talk about what is happening in our businesses as well our lives. These conversations will be recorded and posted on our blogs and on Facebook. You can download these calls and put them on your MP3 players or your phone and listen while you are driving or waiting in line somewhere. (I like to listen to training while I am fixing dinner. If you have been following what is happening in our family, I am in the kitchen a LOT these days!) In our first 'conversation', we talked about our morning routines. Life has changed a lot for me this year. Both kids are now working and for the first time in their lives they aren't home. If any of you home school, you will understand the significance of this event! When you home school you are with your kids every day. This was a blessing! Many moms wait until their kids are in school to get work done. I gradually built a business while the kids were at home. Now they are both working and it has been an adjustment. We also talked about Facebook. Facebook is constantly changing and it is important to stay on top of the changes. We discussed the new rule concerning usernames and the SSL change coming October 1st.

Getting Ready for Fall…Nana’s Sweet Potato Cake

By Admin | September 23, 2011

I'm Getting Ready For Fall

Get Out The Pumpkins, Refresh Your Wreath

Summer is over, I am certainly ready for Fall, are you?

You've heard me say it before… and I just can't help saying it again! I LOVE FALL! I love the cool crisp air and going to football games. I really look forward to our annual apple-picking trip to the mountains. This year we hope to be able to take our grandson with us. I love "dancing leaves" when I look in my rear-view mirror as I drive down a leaf covered road!

I have been pulling out pumpkins, witches, spiders and ghosts that make our grandchildren squeel with delight! Oh, and talking about pumpkins, just ask my husband, I could spend a fortune on real pumpkins in all shapes and sizes… even down to the tiniest ones. So, I have to hold myself back now with our weather in South Carolina being so warm during Fall…making the pumpkins rot too quickly! What a shame!

My Wreaths are Ready to be Put

I Freshen Them up a Little!

"How do you freshen up a wreath?" you might ask…. Well, I always add a little extra greenery and fall leaves if the birds picked at them during last fall. If there is an empty spot where it wasn't stored properly in our attic, I attach a new pumpkin or two. A few sponge mushrooms add that extra natural, wild touch. You can even walk around in your yard. Pick a bunch of berries which is starting to turn. A stem of bright orange leaves would last for about a week before you need to pull it out, filling in that spot with another outdoor treasure. Just look around, and see what you can come up with to accent your wreath. Let me know! I really would love to hear your thoughts and ideas! Why, we might even use them in a newsletter!

I posted on Facebook this morning about Nana's Sweet Potato Cake! And I told my Facebook friends that I just may… put the "SECRET" recipe for her Sweet Potato Cake in this newsletter! Well, I'll take a chance and hope that I don't get in trouble and give you the recipe for this "delicious" Fall treat!

Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, if you haven't been to my Facebook Fan page, I would love for you to visit! Just click on the "Like" button while you're there, and you'll receive updates when I make posts (which is about every day). I talk about many different subjects, just as I do in my newsletters. Who knows… you may just luck up on a "secret special"!! Here is the link:

Quick Tip

Nana's Sweet Potato Cake

SWEET POTATO SURPRISE CAKE:

1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
2 cups sugar
4 eggs…separated
4 tbsp. hot water
2 1/2 cups cake flour…sifted
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 1/2 cups grated raw sweet potatoes
1 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp vanilla

Combine cooking oil & sugar and beat well. Add egg yolks and blend well. Add hot water then the dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Stir in grated potatoes, nuts, and vanilla and beat well. Beat the egg whites until stiff and fold into mixture. Bake in 3 greased 8" layer pans (with wax paper liners), and bake at 350 degrees for 25 – 30 minutes. Let layers cool good before frosting.

FROSTING:

1 large & 1 small can of evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 1/2 sticks margarine
3 egg yolks
1 3/4 cups coconut

Combine milk, sugar, margarine, egg yolks, and vanilla in a sauce pan. Cook over medium heat about 10 or 12 minutes, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Remove from heat and add coconut. Beat and let it get almost cold and it will spread better.

The ironic part is that I have Celiac disease and am allergic to gluten – flour. I have never been able to taste this cake. But I can tell you that it smells absolutely scrumptuous, and everyone wants more and more. One piece of this cake is NEVER enough!
